Today we recognize Rare Disease Day in honour of one of our beautiful Stroller babies, Lexi, who was sadly granted her angel wings on Thursday, January 7, 2016. It is with deep sadness that we both honour and miss this beautiful little girl. Lexi was an incredible baby who I had the pleasure of meeting and seeing every week when her Mom, Whitney came into Stroller Fitness. She was full of life and smiles at every class. Lexi filled my heart in a very special way. I am forever grateful to have met her. Her mother Whitney is one of the strongest and grateful women I know.
Anyone who met Lexi knew that she was special beyond what words could describe. I miss her dearly and can’t begin to imagine what her parents must be going through. It is my mission to help raise money in honour of Lexi for all those who are currently suffering.
In December, Fit4Females raised Karma money for Baby Lexi. We offered Karma drop ins and donated portions of our sales for our Online Train with Trina Program and In Studio classes. Lexi was battling for her life and it was our mission to raise money for the charity of Whitney’s choice. Read Lexi’s story here. With your help we raised $525. Fit4Females has decided to match that for a total $1,050 in Lexi’s Honour. All proceeds will be donated to Families of SMA Canada. (www.curesma.ca).
Whitney’s Post for Rare Disease Day
“I love someone Rare! How about you? Today is #WorldRareDiseaseDay did you know that there are about 350 Million people affected by a rare disease and about 50% of those affected are children? Rare doesn’t sound so rare does it? Spinal muscular atrophy was something I had never known about until Lexi was diagnosed, Luke and I had no idea we were carriers of this rare genetic disease which about 1 in 40 people are carriers; so please understand rare isn’t that rare. Most rare diseases do not have any FDA approved treatments. Take the time today to learn about rare diseases. Awareness is key to help with cures and treatments. If anything do it for this adorable little super woman and all the other brave and adorable fighters out there!” Whitney
