When and why did you join Fit4Females?

2020 has brought so many surprises, including me doing my first official Online Workout, Cardio Boot Camp!

Mine is a story centred around the pandemic and sisterhood. COVID simultaneously took away my access to my in-person Pilates classes and my extended family including my sister, Shivaun. Shivaun is a Fit4Females Team Leader and encouraged me to join the online classes. I live in Toronto and while I normally love living in a large urban centre, it’s decidedly less fun during a pandemic. Being able to join the Online Workout classes remotely meant I could stay active and, more importantly, I could join my sister in a class!

What made you stick with us?

Initially, the primary motivation was to check in with and feel connected to Shivaun as she works in a hospital, there is an extra risk of contracting COVID. Not easy to be able to support your family remotely, however, Fit4Females offered an opportunity to see Shivaun healthy and well! For me, Fit4Females was a positive mental health choice during a dark time in human history.  Joining the community of women was a breath of fresh air!

What specific results (both physical and emotional) have you seen since working with Fit4Females?

Since the pandemic hit, I have been in some blend of full-time school and/or working long hours. Both required me to sit for 14+hours a day, 6-7 days a week. Which is a ridiculous request for any human body!  Once I started attending classes regularly (2-3 times a week), I really started benefitting from the strengthening and stress relief.  Sweat inducing exercise has become a non-negotiable ritual for me.

What do you love about Fit4Females and the Team Leaders?

The amount of energy I had available to bring to each class varied depending on school/work/life stress. Sometimes my exercising was ‘grandma paced’ and others it was ‘rage against the machine’!  Allowing people to define their level for that day while offering inspiration to push, is a nice balance that the Fit4Females Team offers.  I love being encouraged to find my edge while recognizing sometimes just showing up and moving is enough.

What has Fit4Females done to go above and beyond?

Continued support and enthusiasm! Offering different options for exercises that are challenging yet always providing safe and clear instructions.

Brag about your wins big and small

Push-ups have been my sworn natural enemy, so it’s been fun to be able to make progress on that front!

What would you tell someone who is nervous to join?

Especially being remote, just try it.  Show up, turn your camera off if you’d like to stay more private.  Commit to movement and the rest will follow.

Share your best “make it happen” Fit Tip

Not overthinking it. Sometimes I don’t think beyond the requirement to just log into Zoom. I treat it like a work meeting – log on and the participation will naturally follow.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 90 days?

Now that I am completed school, I really want to counter all the sitting I’ve been doing by building muscle in the next 90 days. I would love to exit the pandemic with strength!
