It’s Super Bowl time!  This is one of my favourite winter recipes that is perfect for super bowl because it’s healthy and can help you stay lean.  Avoid all of the unhealthy appetizers and fill yourself up mindful food choices that taste great!

Chili

Your guests will love this.  Get creative and serve it in a fun theme bowl or cup.  The best part is that the prep work is 20 minutes including clean up and you can let it sit in the crockpot!

Trina’s Super Bowl Chili

What you need

  • 2 packages of Lean or Extra Ground Beef
  • Two 28oz cans of Crushed Tomatoes *no salt added
  • Two 14oz cans of Navy Beans *no salt added
  • One 14oz can of Black Beans *no salt added
  • One 14oz can of Kidney Beans *no salt added
  • 1/3 cup of All Natural White Linen Marinara Sauce (optional)
  • 2tbsp of Chili Powder
  • Pepper to taste
  • *Sometimes I sauté onions it just depends who my guests are
  • If you need salt, add a little sea salt yourself

Chili Ingredients

Step 1

Brown the beef until there is no pink

Strain the fat in a can (so you can freeze it for garbage day)

Break up the meat with a potato masher (it makes it great for bite size)

In the meantime rinse all of your beans in a strainer (I normally buy dried beans and soak them but if you are pressed for time used canned)

Step 2 – Crockpot time!

Add all ingredients in order

  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Beef
  • All cans of beans
  • Marinara sauce
  • Chili Powder
  • Pepper

Give it a little stir it to mix the flavours.

Set your crockpot on low for 4-6 hours or high for 3.  The slower it is cooked the better.  Since the meat is already cooked you are just mixing all of the flavours.

Tips

Sometimes I make it with turkey, chili or completely vegetarian (add more beans, onions and zucchini too)

If buying canned, make sure the cans do not contain BPA in the lining (Eden is a great product BPA free)

Ideally if you can soak the beans yourself it’s easier and cheaper (but they have to sit overnight so a tiny bit of planning ahead is needed)

Serve it with unsalted nacho chips for a treat.

I top with a little green for presentation (kale, parsley, etc.)
