I love Labour Day weekend.  It’s the time to celebrate summer and it marks a new September beginning (almost like New Years). September is the New January and Labour Day is the kick off. It is also the time when we eat and drink too much at barbecues, outdoor gatherings, camping and sitting on your couch.  Here are a few Fit4Females Tidbits to keep the calories away and the waist line in check. Labour Day Tidbits

Download my Fit Traveller here.  It has a workout you can do before you consume extra calories, Nutrition Tips, a recipe and more.  If you are going to drink and consume excess calories, try these tips:

  1. Drink lots of water all day long (urine should be pale in colour) especially before drinking
  2. Fill up at home and have a healthy snack before you go
  3. 1 glass of water for every alcoholic beverage consumed
  4. My favourite “mocktail” is watermelon juice in a wine glass *add a peppermint leaf to fancy it up
  5. Avoid added sugar drinks and skip dessert
  6. Avoid creamy dip appetizers, make this guacamole recipe instead
  7. Be active and have “fun competitions” ie: planks, pushups, ask everyone “how many can you do?”
  8. Offer to bring a food item (healthy salad, veggies, dessert, etc)

Detox Water Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1-2 lemons
  • Ginger
  • Cayenne pepper *optional
  • Water
  • Pitcher, mason jars or water bottles to store it
  • Blender is optional

Use a Blender or Vitamix:

  • The juice of 1-2 entire lemons
  • 3 small cubes of fresh ginger peeled
  • Cayenne pepper to taste * it’s spicy so add a bit at first
  • Pitcher, mason jars or water bottles to store it

Labour Day Travel Food Ideas

Excess calories add up quickly with alcohol and snacks.  Choose to eat healthier if you are drinking!  These are some of the foods I would pack on a road trip, for camping or eat in the backyard.  Get a complete breakdown of what I do when I’m off my home eating routine here.  Labour Day is a time to celebrate new beginnings.

Final Tidbits

Decide before you go what you will “splurge” calories on.  Avoid going with the attitude “oh well, I already failed to I will just keep eating and drinking.  Feeling bloated, hung over and inflamed sucks.  Make a decision, tell someone and stick to it my friend.
