HIIT Training is all the rave these days and that includes Tabata and the new Meta Fit Training.  I’m going to break down the basics of HIIT: What is it?  Why should we do it?  Is HIIT the only thing you need to do?  If you want to burn more calories while sitting on the couch this is a must read.

HIIT Training | Tabata | Meta Fit

Here is a sneak peek of our High Intensity Interval Training classes.  Red faces, heavy breathing and all out effort.  These ladies are hardly able to speak after.

What is HIIT?

Tabata and Meta Fit are a type of HIIT Training that we offer at Fit4Females.  According to wikipedia: “High-intensity interval training, also called high-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE) or sprint interval training (SIT), is a form of interval training, a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic with less intense recovery periods.

HIIT is the concept where one performs a short burst of high-intensity (or max-intensity) exercise followed by a brief low-intensity activity, repeatedly, until too exhausted to continue. Though there is no universal session duration, these intense workouts typically last under 30 minutes, with times varying based on a participant’s current fitness level.

Why HIIT Train?

Get it done faster and push it all out.  You can hardly talk, you are panting heavy and you really just feel like stopping because it’s that intense.  Some of the benefits include:
  • shorter workouts because the intensity is not one that you can sustain too long
  • you are burning calories 24-28 hours after your workout
  • you don’t need a lot of equipment (if any)
  • workouts go by fast
  • EPOC
The big benefit is EPOC.  “Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC, informally called afterburn) is a measurably increased rate of oxygen intake following strenuous activity.” *source wikipedia.  What this means is we are burning lots and lots of calories when we are just sitting on the couch, etc.  YES PLEASE!

Fit4Females offers all of these classes.  It is important to note that HIIT should not be the only part of your regular workouts as too much of this type of training will leave you injured and burnt out.  We also offer HIIT Training in our Online Programs for the 28 Day Shape up and 8 week Train with Trina Program.

Trainer Trina Tip:

Use it as a compliment to your sessions but don’t forget to incorporate a combination of low impact workouts, strength training both with body weight and equipment, flexibility training, total body core conditioning in all forms and meditation. It is important to know that it is not the only type of training you should be doing.
