Member Spotlight Heart Attack Recovery
Pam “We all know how it feels to not be able to do something you love to do. My awakening moment and the beginning of my fitness journey with Fit4Females came at 11 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2016. I had eaten late and went to bed on a full stomach. I was awakened by an elephant sitting on my chest with no warning signs.
An ambulance was called and I was taken to the General Hospital. Within half an hour, I was being wheeled to the Operating Room having just had a massive heart attack. One artery was 99% blocked, the 2nd artery was 85% blocked.
My life flashed before my eyes. As a Type A personality, I had always been in charge. I run a busy Family Medical Practice, keep my husband in line and have never put myself first. That all changed. I was forced to slow down and smell the roses. It wasn’t easy.”
I don’t want another Heart Attack
After 8 weeks I was told to get in shape or risk having another heart attack in the next 3 months. I googled female only fitness studios in Stoney Creek. I e-mailed Trina who responded the next day, offered me a free class and I went. That night I was welcomed by all the women in the class. My being 75 pounds overweight wasn’t a problem for them, I felt like I belonged. I signed up that night. I told Trina regardless of the cost “You can’t put a price on your health.“
For the last 5 months I have been unable to do the one thing I love to do most, TRAVEL. Two weeks ago I was given the green light, I was able with Trina’s team to pass my stress test with flying colours and am on my way to Europe for 17 days to celebrate my 36th wedding anniversary.

When and Why did you join Fit4Females?
I have been attending Boot Camp since mid February 2017 and joined to get in shape or risk having another heart attack in the next 3 months.
How was your first Fit4Females workout and what made you stick with us?
I joined the first night after I tried the free class because Trina and the class made me feel like one of the team!
Why do you love Fit4Females and the Team Leaders?
I love Fit4Females because the Team Leaders are approachable and knowledgeable.
What has Fit4Females done to go above and beyond?
Most of all, they have helped me through motivation to excel on my journey.
What is your biggest non-scale win since joining Fit4Females?
My biggest non-scale win is having more energy. I’ve had to buy new clothes as I’ve lost 30 pounds and gone from a size 2x to an extra large!
Any encouraging advice you can share with our Readers that are not putting themselves first or nervous to join?
You can’t look after others if you’re not looking after yourself first.
