As a Trainer specializing in women’s fitness since 1999, I see the struggle with a healthy body image every day. We struggle more than we should with our negative body image. Here are 5 Quick Tips for Healthy Body Image. Most of the time your self destructive talk is worse than what your body actually looks like. When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Is your body image positive or negative?
I posted a question on the Fit4Females Facebook Fan Page “What do you think about the report that Cameron Diaz is “too muscular”? Do you think she looks amazing or too muscular”? Boy did opinions fly!
Thoughts about Your Body Image
What you “think” about yourself transfers into your daily mood, social interactions and success. Let’s face it, we all have things we like and dislike about ourselves. “I am fat, if only I could get rid of these rolls, back fat, muffin top, if only my waist were smaller, if only I was “skinny”, etc.” On and on convincing ourselves that we are not good enough or that “someone else” looks better than you. Even worse, “If only I could look like I did in high school, before having kids, etc.” I work with women on a daily basis expressing that they “hate or can’t stand their bodies”. Not to mention all of the eating disorders I have seen in clients over the years.
Body Image Critics
None of us are exempt from our worst critic, OURSELVES! Even I find myself picking at my “flaws” on occasion and focusing on things that I “wish I could change”. The bottom line is some things can be changed (weight, muscle mass, health and thoughts) and others can’t (wonderful genetics). I am far from perfect but I practice affirmations for a healthy body image daily.
5 Quick Tips for Healthy Body Image
#1 Quick Tip for Healthy Body Image
Think differently about your idea of the perfect body.
My opinion, strong is the new skinny. A woman with muscle and strength no matter what her size/weight is inspirational. Enough muscle definition on her body tells me her bones are healthy and she is burning fat just sitting around. What are you comparing to? I love this picture, mostly I love that booty!
#2 Quick Tip for Healthy Body Image
Stop looking in the mirror and feel your body – That’s right, put your hands on your own body. Scared? If you don’t love yourself, nobody will. Pay attention to the areas that you love. You are beautiful because of your face, skin, smile, curves, muscle, booty, etc.
#3 Quick Tip for Healthy Body Image
Surround yourself with like minded people. Negativity and insecurity breeds. Family and friends can influence your body image with positive and negative comments. Do you need to clear out the negativity? You need people who believe in you even when you don’t believe in yourself.
#4 Quick Tip for Healthy Body Image
Get active and eat well – Nobody gets fit and strong just thinking about it. Sign up for a Fitness Program and be sure that your trainer has a positive outlook and healthy body image. #5 Quick Tip for Healthy Body Image
Daily affirmation – Say something positive about your body every single day. Get it? EVERY SINGLE DAY! Eventually it will become a habit. When you look in the mirror, are your thoughts reality or are you being judgmental?
